Houtem

Houtem has more than 670 inhabitants and is one of the largest municipalities of Veurne. The vicarage (1636), once a safe haven for the Sint-Niklaas monastery from Veurne, served as headquarters to the Belgian army during WWI - between 1915 and 1918. King Albert I was a regular visitor.
